                  William E. “Bill” Bailey

 

 

William E. “Bill” Bailey, 70, devoted husband, loving father, and grandfather,

of West Columbia, S.C., passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011. 

Born in Lafayette, GA, he was the son of the late Elmer Summerfield Bailey

and Mary Dorothy Rivers Bailey.  A visitation for family and friends was held

on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Thompson Funeral Home in Lexington,

S.C.

 

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 16, 2012 at Oakview

Cemetery in Camilla with Rev. Lynn Roberts officiating.

 

Mr. Bailey graduated from Camilla High School, Camilla, GA;  and graduated

Summa Cum Laude from GA State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in

Actuarial Science.  He retired after more than 30 years as owner of WB

Actuarial Services and Dataplex Corporation in West Columbia, S.C.  He was

a member of the Southeastern Conference of Actuaries, The American

Academy of Actuaries, and The Conference of Consulting Actuaries.  He

served on the Central Midlands Regional Planning Council in Columbia, S.C.,

and also served on several community organizations and held many local

school PTA and Band Booster Club positions when his children were students.

 

Mr. Bailey was accomplished at guitar and piano and loved music of all kinds,

and he passed that love of making and enjoying music on to his children.  His

 favorite hobby was woodworking and he enjoyed gardening and watching the

South Carolina Gamecocks football and baseball games.  He was a doting and

 active father and grandfather who enjoyed crafting things for his children and

grandchildren.  He courageously and valiantly dealt with Parkinson’s disease

for the past 11 years.

 

Survivors include his loving spouse of 47 years, Joyce Weddle Bailey of West

Columbia, S.C.;  a son, Christopher Summerfield Bailey of West Columbia,

S.C.;  a daughter, Kerry Bailey Everett of West Columbia, S.C.;  five

grandchildren, Christopher Summerfield “CJ” Bailey, Jr., Meredith Madeline

Sharwood Bailey, Matthew William Bailey, Ella Lee Everett, and Jesse Rivers

Everett;  and his beloved sister, Betty Bailey Jones of Camilla, GA;  two

nephews, Tony Jones and Mark Jones, and their families, all of Camilla, GA.

 

Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
