Obituary for Alice E. "Jean" Brown Jones

Alice Eugenia “Jean” Brown Jones, 87, of Camilla died Monday, September 4, 2017 at her residence.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 7 at Camilla United Methodist Church with interment in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. James C. Sapp and Rev. Keith Goodlett will officiate.

Active pallbearers will include Adela Ford, Steven Jones, Michael Jones, Lamar Jones, Robert Davidson, Johnny Barrentine, Jackie Cliett, and Beverly Carr. Honorary pallbearers will be the United Methodist Women’s Group, Camilla Lions Club, Westwood Grandparents Club, Carlton Brooks, Johnny Brooks, and Greg Green.

Born March 19, 1930 in Terrell County, GA, Mrs. Jones was the daughter of the late Carl Maxwell Brown and Bertha Brim Brown. She was a member of Camilla United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group, where she was elected as Silent Disciple twice. Mrs. Jones was a member of Camilla Lions Club, where she served as President and was the first woman to join the club in Camilla. She was a member of the Westwood Grandparents Club, where she made and donated quilts for 20 years for the Westwood Auction. Mrs. Jones was also a member of the Vashti Center and Wesley Glenn Ministries. She was a home economist, having worked with the County Extension Office of Baker and Dekalb Counties. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Davis and Carolyn Williams.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Melvin F. Jones, Sr. of Camilla; son, Melvin F. Jones, Jr. (Terri) of Camilla; sister, Dorothy Letteer of Thompson; brother, Carl M. Brown, Jr. of Rockledge, FL; two grandsons, James Tarleton Jones (Amy) and Shaun Maxwell Jones.

Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 6 at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home in Camilla.
