Obituary for William Lindsey Mock

Dr. William Lindsey Mock, 85, of Columbus, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 in Columbus, GA.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2017 at Milford Baptist Church, Leary, GA with interment in the church cemetery. Rev. Timothy Mock will officiate. Visitation for family and friends will be held after services.

Dr. Mock is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Betty Goodman Mock. He is also survived by many devoted nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Seth Mock and Terrell Mock of Albany, GA.

Dr. Mock, son of the late Sam and Flora Mae Whitaker Mock, was born and raised in Miller County, GA. He graduated from Miller County High School and then attended the University of Georgia, where he received his BS degree in Education. Lindsey taught for one year at Donaldsonville High School before serving his country for three years in the United States Army. He was a morse code interpreter during the Korean Conflict. After his service, he continued his education at University of Georgia, where he earned his Master’s of Education and Doctorate of Education Degrees.

After moving to Columbus in 1961, Lindsey began his first job as a member of the faculty of the new Columbus College. He was Dean of Students prior to becoming Vice President of Student Affairs. He held that position until his retirement in 1991. Dr. Mock played a very important role in the development of Columbus College into the large University that it is today.

Dr. Mock was a lifelong Baptist and member of Morningside Baptist Church. He was also an active member and leader in the Civitan Club and the Greater Columbus Kiwanis Club. Special hobbies included reading, growing beautiful vegetables and flowers, and most importantly, Lindsey enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
