Obituary for Walter Morey, Jr.

Walter Morey, Jr., 88, of Baconton passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at his residence in Baconton. He was surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 24 at Pine Bluff Baptist Church with interment in Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Keith Smith will officiate.

Born May 12, 1931 in Mitchell County, Mr. Morey was the son of the late Walter Morey, Sr. and Minnie Bynum Morey. He was preceded in death by twin brothers, Herbert William and Hubert Wendall; his son, Walter Steven Morey; and a granddaughter, Anna Elizabeth Yeager Parker. Mr. Morey was a widely respected construction manager in various general contracting businesses throughout his career. He worked on projects from St. Petersburg, FL to Cartersville, GA in a career that spanned over sixty years. He was hard-working and honest in all his endeavors. He was a founding partner in BMR General Contractors in Albany, GA.

Mr. Morey was a member of Pine Bluff Baptist Church. He greatly enjoyed his opportunities to attend church services and activities. He always looked forward to Friday morning prayer time and breakfast with the men of the church. His quiet faith guided all aspects of his life. He was kind and generous to everyone. He had a forgiving spirit and did his best to live at peace with all.

Mr. Morey was a family man. He found great joy when he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. But, he always saved a special smile for his wife. His favorite thing was time with his wife, whether walking in their fields or viewing the changing colors of the leaves in northern Georgia. He will be remembered by his family as a man of faith who was quiet, strong, and loving, in all he did.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 68 years, Mavis Blackburn Morey of Baconton; two daughters, Lisa Yeager of Baconton and Janet Cooke (Ed) of New Enterprise, PA; a son, David B. Morey (Elizabeth) of Albany; his dear sister, Faye Kinard of Signal Mountain, TN; nine grandchildren, Amanda Swain (Jacob), Jennifer Rivera, Ryan Cooke, Christopher Morey, Emily Yeager, Daniel Cooke (Hannah), Lori Berry (Patrick), Lydia Allex (Jason), and Jonathan Morey; fifteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10 – 11 a.m. Friday, before services, at Pine Bluff Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
